AB Download Manager alternative for Mac

An AB Download Manager alternative for Mac.

AB Download Manager is a good free choice: open source, on Windows, Mac, Linux and Android, with queues, a scheduler and extensions for Chrome and Firefox. If that’s what you need, keep it. Lynx is Mac-only. It catches big downloads from Chrome, Edge, Brave and Arc, saves video from web pages, downloads just part of a long video and shows progress in the notch.

Questions

More in the Help Center.

Is AB Download Manager available for Mac?
Yes. AB Download Manager has Mac builds for Apple silicon and Intel; its README also offers Homebrew: brew tap amir1376/tap && brew install --cask ab-download-manager. Version 1.10.4 came out on September 8, 2026.
Is AB Download Manager free?
Yes, free and open source under the Apache-2.0 license. Lynx has a free version with no time limit, and Pro for $29.99 a year, $4.99 a month or $99 once.
Is AB Download Manager safe?
Its code is public on GitHub, with about 18,000 stars. Download it only from its GitHub releases or official site. Its release notes don’t say whether the Mac app is notarized by Apple, so macOS may ask you to confirm the first time you open it.
Which browsers does AB Download Manager work with?
Its README lists extensions for Chrome and Firefox. Lynx’s extension covers Chrome, Edge, Brave and Arc; it has no Firefox extension yet, so in Firefox you copy a link and Lynx offers it.
Can I use AB Download Manager and Lynx on the same Mac?
Yes. If both browser extensions are installed, let only one of them catch downloads. In Lynx, turn catching off in the extension’s popup.
Is downloading legal?
It depends on what you download and where you live. Saving your own uploads, public-domain and Creative Commons works, or anything the owner lets you download is fine. Don’t download or share content you don’t have the rights to, and respect each site’s terms.
