Questions

More in the Help Center.

Is Free Download Manager safe?
Download it only from its developer’s own site, freedownloadmanager.org. In September 2023 Kaspersky reported that, from 2020 to at least 2022, the FDM site had redirected some Linux visitors to a malicious .deb package; the FDM team published a statement two days later. That report was about Linux and that period. It’s a reason to install from the official site and keep FDM updated, and it doesn’t show that today’s Mac version is unsafe.
Is Free Download Manager available for Mac?
Yes. FDM 6.35 has builds for Apple silicon and Intel Macs, and FDM offers older versions for macOS 10.11 to 12 (checked on its download page, September 28, 2026).
Is Lynx free like FDM?
Partly. The free version has no time limit. It splits files across up to 16 connections (32 with Pro), resumes them, catches big downloads from your browser, saves media up to 1080p, runs 3 downloads at a time and makes clips up to 5 minutes long. Pro adds the highest available quality, up to 10 downloads at a time, clips of any length in every shape, playlists and subtitles, for $29.99 a year, $4.99 a month or $99 once. Every Pro feature is on for 14 days after you install. FDM is free with no paid tier.
Does Lynx download torrents?
No. Lynx handles direct downloads and the pages you visit, not BitTorrent or magnet links. If you need torrents, keep FDM, or look at Motrix or Folx in the best download managers for Mac.
Can I use Lynx and FDM on the same Mac?
Yes. If both browser extensions are installed, let only one of them catch downloads. In Lynx, turn catching off in the extension’s popup.
Does Lynx work with Firefox or Safari?
Not yet. Its extension covers Chrome, Edge, Brave and Arc, and Firefox and Safari versions are on the way. From any other browser, copy a download link and Lynx offers it.
Is downloading legal?
It depends on what you download and where you live. Saving your own uploads, public-domain and Creative Commons works, or anything the owner lets you download is fine. Don’t download or share content you don’t have the rights to, and respect each site’s terms.
