When to choose NDM or Lynx

Stay with NDM if…

  • You want the smallest app you can get: NDM’s Mac download is 1.4 MB.
  • You’re on an Intel Mac or an older macOS: NDM asks for OS X 10.10 or later.
  • You use Firefox, or download through an HTTP or SOCKS proxy.
  • You want to renew an expired download link and carry on where you stopped.

Choose Lynx if…

  • You want a Mac app that’s kept current: Lynx 1.1.3 came out in October 2026, signed and notarized by Apple.
  • You browse in Chrome, Edge, Brave and Arc and want big downloads caught there.
  • You save video from web pages, or need just part of a long one for an edit: a 35-second clip is 11 MB instead of 255 MB.
  • You’d like download progress in the MacBook’s notch.

Is Neat Download Manager available for Mac?
Yes: version 1.3, a 1.4 MB download that its site says runs on OS X 10.10 or later. The site doesn’t say whether it runs natively on Apple silicon. Its server dates the Mac installer July 18, 2021, and the Windows version, 1.4, November 15, 2022 (checked September 28, 2026).
Is Neat Download Manager the same as IDM?
No. NDM is a separate free app by Javad Motallebi. Its site calls it a “free Internet Download Manager”, but it isn’t made by Tonec, the maker of IDM, and IDM itself doesn’t run on macOS. More in IDM for Mac.
Is Neat Download Manager free?
Yes. Lynx also has a free version with no time limit, and Pro for $29.99 a year, $4.99 a month or $99 once.
When was NDM’s browser extension last updated?
Its Chrome Web Store listing shows version 1.9.92, updated on November 21, 2023, with 700,000 users (checked September 28, 2026).
Can I use NDM and Lynx on the same Mac?
Yes. If both browser extensions are installed, let only one of them catch downloads. In Lynx, turn catching off in the extension’s popup.
Is downloading legal?
It depends on what you download and where you live. Saving your own uploads, public-domain and Creative Commons works, or anything the owner lets you download is fine. Don’t download or share content you don’t have the rights to, and respect each site’s terms.
