NotchNook does more as a general notch app, with widgets, a calendar and a webcam mirror. But on September 28, 2026 its website wasn’t loading and Homebrew had disabled it. Lynx Notch is narrower: your downloads beside the camera, free with Lynx; music, copied links and a file shelf with Pro.

When to choose NotchNook or Lynx Notch

Stay with NotchNook if…

  • NotchNook still runs on your Mac and you use its widgets, calendar or webcam mirror. Lynx Notch has none of those.
  • You’re on an Intel Mac: Lynx needs Apple silicon.
  • You want one app for everything in the notch, and no download manager.

Choose Lynx Notch if…

  • You want your downloads beside the camera, free with Lynx.
  • You’d like your music, copied links and a file shelf there too. That’s Pro, free for 14 days when you install.
  • You also want a download manager: up to 32 connections, resume and browser catching.

How Lynx Notch works

Download progress

A thumbnail and a progress ring sit either side of the camera. Hover and the island opens with speed, time left, pause and stop. Free with Lynx.

Links, music and a shelf

With Pro, copy a link anywhere and the notch offers Download, MP3 or Clip. Whatever’s playing shows its artwork and a visualizer, and a shelf keeps the files you drop on it.

CPU use

About 1% of one CPU core with a download running, and about 0.4% with music playing and the island closed, in our measurements on an Apple silicon MacBook Air.

Is NotchNook still available?
When we checked on September 28, 2026, lo.cafe, its developer’s site, wasn’t loading; Homebrew had disabled its NotchNook package on September 19 because the download couldn’t be reached; and its Setapp page returned “not found”. MacUpdate still lists version 1.6.2 (June 26, 2026) and marks it as no longer supported by its developer. We haven’t seen an announcement from lo.cafe, so check its site before you pay for it.
What did NotchNook cost?
Its page listed $25 once for 5 Macs, or $3 a month for 2 Macs, and it was also part of Setapp. It needs macOS 14.6 or later (from its page as archived on August 20, 2026).
Is Lynx Notch free?
Download progress in the notch is free with Lynx, and so is dragging a link onto the notch to download it. Copied links, music and the file shelf are part of Pro, which is on for everyone for the first 14 days. Pro is $29.99 a year, $4.99 a month or $99 once.
Does Lynx Notch work on Macs without a notch?
Yes. On Macs and displays without a notch, the island grows from the top center of the screen.
Which Macs does Lynx Notch need?
It needs macOS 14 or later. It comes with Lynx, which runs on Apple silicon (M1 or later) Macs, and isn’t sold on its own.
Can I run Lynx Notch next to another notch app?
Yes, but two notch apps draw in the same space. Choose what Lynx shows (downloads only, for example) or turn it off in Lynx › Settings › Notch. Other options are in the best notch apps for Mac.
